Instagram Adds Age Checks for New Accounts,New Options to Restrict Messaging

Recently, Instagram has make an announcement of a new process regarding it will require users to enter their date of birth when signing up for a new account on the platform. Sample shown as below.

According to Instagram, they do demonstrated that user must be at least 13 years old to have an account in most countries. Hence, asking user date of birth when creating an account on Instagram will help prevent underage people from joining Instagram. Not only that, it does help them keep youngster safer and allow more age-appropriate experiences overall.

Furthermore, Instagram has no more check in place, which has lead to many people under the age of 13 signing up to the app. Moreover, Instagram also indicate that all users will required to enter their birth date but the information will not be visible to other users. Additionally, Instagram will also allow those who have connected their Facebook account to have their date of birth info exported from there.

Thus, the adding additional measures to protect younger users are a vital step, even in basic form like this. Actually, Facebook has the same for years, and TikTok also has age checks in place. But younger users can still side-step such requirements, it adds another detection and enforcement tool, expanding Instagram’s options in this respect.

On the other hands, Instagram also looks to age-gate business accounts.

According to a conducted research report, it suggested that a growing number of youngster users had started converting their personal profiles into business accounts. This is due to access more in-depth audience data on post-performance and in response to Instagram hiding total like counts.
