We make mistakes. When we do, we correct them in public rather than quietly editing the page. This page explains how.
How to report an error
What we do
- We check first. A correction request is treated as a claim to verify, not as an instruction. We go back to the original source.
- If we were wrong, we fix the text and add a dated correction note at the foot of the article describing what changed. We do not delete the article to hide an error.
- If only part of the article was wrong, we correct that part and leave the rest standing.
- If we were right, the article stays as published. We will usually reply and explain the sourcing.
- Headlines count. A misleading headline is corrected even if the article body was accurate.
Correction notes
Notes are written at the bottom of the article, dated, and state plainly what was wrong and what it now says. We use two labels:
- Correction — the article contained a material error of fact.
- Clarification — the article was accurate but could reasonably be misread, so the wording has been tightened.
Taking content down
We do not remove articles on request simply because someone dislikes them. We will remove or amend content where it is defamatory, breaches Malaysian law, exposes personal data, or where the public interest in keeping it is outweighed by the harm it causes. Requests of that kind should be sent to the same address with the subject line Removal request and will be reviewed by the editor.
How fast
We aim to acknowledge correction requests within one working day and to resolve clear factual errors within two. Requests that need re-reporting take longer; we will tell you if that is the case.
