The .my domain promotion closes this Sunday, 27 September. From Monday 28 September the first-year price goes back to the standard rate, so if a name has been sitting in your notes for a while, this is the window.
We covered the technical side of this earlier in the week — why an AI-built app deserves its own domain instead of a free subdomain. This piece is just the deadline, stripped down: what is on offer, what ends Sunday, what runs longer, and the one thing about .my registration people trip over.
What the .my domain promotion actually covers
| Extension | First-year price | Normal price | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| .my / .com.my | RM9.90 | Standard rate from 28 September | Sunday 27 September 2026 |
| .asia | RM9.90 | RM78 | 30 October 2026 |
The RM9.90 applies to the first year only — that line sits directly on the price list, and it is the part worth reading twice. Every domain has a renewal, and the renewal is billed at the standard rate. The .asia comparison is easy to state because the registry-side normal price is published: RM78. For .my, the promotional page does not publish the post-promotion renewal figure, so we will not invent one — treat first-year pricing as the deal and check the renewal rate before you commit to a name you plan to hold for years.
The deadline that matters is Sunday. The .my and .com.my promotional pricing ends 27 September 2026. The .asia pricing continues for another month, to 30 October. If you only want one and you are choosing between the two, the Malaysian extension is the one that lapses first.
Who should care, and who should not
If you run a Malaysian business and your trading name is still on a free subdomain, or your domain is a long hyphenated string you avoid saying out loud, a first-year RM9.90 is a cheap time to fix that. The same applies if you are registering defensively — the matching .my for a name you already hold elsewhere, before someone else does.
If you are pricing a fleet of speculative domains, temper the enthusiasm. First-year promotions are an acquisition discount, not a holding cost. Ten names at RM9.90 become ten renewals at standard rates from year two. Register what you will actually use or genuinely want to protect.
One .my requirement to know before you register
The .my country code is administered by MYNIC Berhad, which describes itself as the sole administrator for web addresses ending in .my in Malaysia. Registration requires documentation to validate that the domain is owned by a Malaysian or a legally operating business in Malaysia. MYNIC frames this as a fraud-reduction measure, and it is the reason a .my carries a little more local credibility than a generic extension.
In practice that means having your registration details ready — for a business, the SSM paperwork behind your trading name. It is not a barrier, but it is a step, and discovering it at 11pm on Sunday is avoidable.
For .asia, the registry behind the extension is the DotAsia Organisation, and there is no Malaysian-residency requirement — which is part of why it prices differently from .my.
The short version
- Sunday 27 September: RM9.90 first-year pricing on .my and .com.my ends; standard rates resume Monday.
- 30 October: the .asia RM9.90 first-year pricing ends; normal rate is RM78.
- First year only: renewals bill at the standard rate — plan for that, not just the headline price.
- .my needs validation: Malaysian ownership documentation, per MYNIC.
If you are coming at this from the app-builder side — a Lovable, Bolt or Vercel project that deserves a real address — we have a separate piece on moving off a free subdomain and what the renewal picture looks like.
