Whatsapp has officially rolled out its new feature which is 8 persons encrypted video chat option. This feature had doubles the capacity of Whatsapp group video calls compared to last time.
According to Whatsapp, it mentioned that all of its video calls are protected with end-to-end encryption. Not only that, it is also sought to build its expansion of group video calling with mobile data limitations in mind. But many Whatsapp users are in developing regions where access to data is not as readily available. Hence, it’s been working to minimize the system demands in order to ensure as many user as possible will be able to utilize the feature to connect with their family or friends face-to-face in a virtual sense.
In addition to this, WhatsApp also notes that its group video calls are also available via Facebook’s Portal home speaker device. During COVID-19 lockdowns, the sales of Facebook’s Portal device has been grown by more than 10x and Facebook is now struggling to keep up with demand. That could have significant impacts and implications in the longer term, but right now, it’s interesting to note the various integrations and options being rolled out for Facebook’s in-home connection product.
Besides that, Facebook do mentioned that group video chat options has been increase 10x in usage during COVID-19. Thus, it’s totally make sense for Facebook to invent or add more tools or new feature in term of expanded Whatsapp group chats to meet the demand.
